July/August 2020

Hello lovely readers, and welcome to our summer issue! We’re dedicating this edition to all the couples who were meant to be getting married this season. Our thoughts have been with you throughout the past few months, and we thank all of you who have shared your stories with us. The silver lining for me has been hearing about the amazing wedding suppliers in our county who have pulled out all the stops to ensure couples still get to have their perfect day – albeit not when they expected to.

We’ve got a corker of an issue for you; we’re celebrating the talented people who create beautiful big-day products by hand (page 51), looking at injecting colour into your wedding with flowers (page 47) and we dream of epic honeymoon destinations to bookmark now (page 92).

Often overlooked, bridal prep is a wonderful time to have a toast with your besties and celebrate your last morning before becoming a newlywed. Flick to page 79 to see how you can do this in style.

We have opened up our back catalogue for you to read online for free to keep you entertained and inspired – just head to our website.

Spotlight on Colchester

Spotlight on Colchester

Colchester Town Hall

A Victorian building completed in 1845, Colchester Town Hall is based on the High Street in the heart of the town, with Castle Park close by for beautiful photographs. A prestigious building rich in history, the impressive facade conceals a hidden gem. The magnificent function rooms are all decorated in an opulent style with ornate and original features, such as satined-glass windows, oil paintings and murals.

There are many stunning spaces for weddings. The Council Chamber (70 guests) is ideal for ceremonies with its impressive windows and wooden pew-style seating giving a churchlike feel. The Moot Hall is the biggest space (300 ceremony guests and 200 reception guests), and is blessed with high ornate ceilings and abundant natural light pouring though the stained-glass windows that depict Colchester’s history.

The Mayoral Suite is a more intimate setting (100 ceremony guests and 70 reception guests), which allows couples to celebrate among the mayor’s regalia and use the impressive marble fireplace as a photo backdrop.
