Unbelievably, I have been at An Essex Wedding HQ for all 100 issues - gasps - so it seems only fitting that I write this issue's letter from the editor! We have been the leaders in bringing local wedding content to all of our lovely readers past and present for 18 years, becoming a much needed go-to wedding bible for couples tying the knot in our gorgeous county of Essex.
I can't deny, I have seen it all, and Essex couples really have pushed the boundaries in wedding themes and styling over the last 18 years. As you can see looking at all of our previous cover shots, the magazine has evolved and will continue to do so ensuring we remain by the side of nearlyweds across the county for many more years to come!
I had my own Essex wedding back in 2018 at The Old Parish Rooms, Rayleigh which is also featured in a real wedding this issue over on page 35. Our amazing new account manager, Kirsty O'Connor – who's celebrating her first issue working on An Essex Wedding - also tied the knot in July 2021 at Essex's Creeksea Place, you can read all about her big day over on page 57. So we really do live and breathe weddings here at An Essex Wedding, they are in our blood and in our hearts and now, more than ever - especially after the last 18 months - An Essex Wedding is here, bigger and better than ever to shout about weddings and suppliers across our much-loved county of Essex!
Our 100th birthday milestone, is credit to our wonderful wedding suppliers that have supported us, our fabulous couples that have graced our pages and our amazing readers that continue to follow An Essex Wedding – thank you!

Houchins wedding venue
A truly unique venue, Houchins is a lovingly restored barn set within its own peaceful landscaped grounds boasting a gentle formality with romantic planting including: roses, lavender, verbena, tulips and much more. There is a myriad of beautiful spots and hidden corners in which photographs can be taken, and the main wedding garden is where the marquee is situated and where the majority of weddings take place.
Designed in a unique modern style, the zinc and cedar shingle barn nestles in the wedding garden with huge folding glass double doors opening onto an expansive west-facing terrace. It’s the perfect setting for reception drinks set in the landscaped gardens. There are three interconnecting barns which allow the wedding to flow from reception drinks to wedding breakfast, then dance the night away in the aptly named Dance Barn!
For the all important ‘I dos’, the Foundry seats up to 130, The Grainstore 150 and for more intimate weddings the wood-panelled drawing room in the house seats 30. Outside there is the marquee and loggia providing seating for up to 150 and the rustic, unlicensed Woodland Wedding area also seats 150 friends and family.
Post-vows, The Grainstore is the perfect setting for the wedding breakfast seating up to 150 and adjoins the bar area and the dance barn; it features a 35ft-high ceiling, open fireplace and mezzanine gallery.
