Are you considering lightening your hair for your wedding? If you want to go from a very dark brown or black to a blonde, then it can be a long journey. We talk to hair expert Lauren Powell of Salon Central Colchester to get her top tips on lightening your locks while keeping them healthy for the big day...

My advice would be to start the lightening process as soon as possible, as getting lighter from black will be a journey. Find a photo of your end goal so you and your hairdresser know what you are working towards.

When starting to lighten your hair you will be exposing its warm undertones - so start off gradually. I would always begin with a full head of highlights so the changes are subtle and not compromising the condition of the hair. Make sure to use a high-quality shampoo and conditioner such as the Olaplex no.4 and no.5, as well as weekly treatments using Olaplex no.3 so the hair is in the best condition possible, which will get you to your goal quicker as your hair will be much stronger. 

To get from black you would need around four to six hair appointments - so look to start at least nine months before your wedding - this is providing the condition of the hair is good. You don't want to do it too fast and damage the hair, so allow the hair to rest by booking appointments every six to eight weeks.
