November/December 2020

As we move towards the end of 2020, and start looking forward to next year, I’m so excited for the 2021 weddings I’m attending, as well as the postponed events I have from last year. Being a wedding editor, it probably comes as no surprise that weddings absolutely fill me with joy, so seeing friends and family having to put a halt to celebrations was hard – but it does mean we get a bumper 2021 season!

Whether you’ve had to postpone or you’ve always planned to get married in 2021 or beyond, these pages are jam-packed with inspiration to get your day exactly how you want it. In recent months we’ve all come to realise that celebrations with our loved ones are precious, and it’s with renewed love for life that we look forward to this happening again.

With the colder days, it’s time to get snuggled up on the sofa with a cuppa and your favourite wedding magazine (ahem!) and get planning the day of your dreams. We’ve got entertainment acts to knock your socks off (page 57), divine jewellery to finish your outfit (page 63) and a round up of the best of Essex venues (page 19). Enjoy!

The Rose and Crown Hotel

Built in the 14th century, making it Colchester’s oldest hotel, The Rose and Crown Hotel is one of the town’s most iconic buildings. The interiors are brimming with period character and quirky artefacts, while oak-beamed walls create a romantic, cosy atmosphere. Bursting with heritage, the 39-bedroom hotel even has a prison in the basement! Step outside to find the Secret Garden and its jasmine-covered arbour.

Celebrations can be held in a number of spaces for up to 80 ceremony guests and 160 evening guests. Partition doors between the Rose Suite and the Oak Room give the flexibility to open up the space into a much larger banqueting suite. For a memorable, intimate wedding, couples can opt for the Prison Wine Bar (20 guests).

Five tips for flawless foundation

Top make-up artist Jen Gooding specialises in e-commerce and editorial make-up, as well as bridal. Here are her top five tips for flawless foundation application. 1) Prep. To make sure you are getting the most out of your foundation application, preparing the skin is the most important part. The key is to make sure your moisture levels in the skin are on top, to do this I recommend introducing a hyaluronic acid serum into your skin care routine, This adds more hydration as it draws moisture into crepey skin, try 'The Inkey List - Hyaluronic Acid Serum'.
