It’s coming up to three years since hubby and I got married – I can’t get my head around that fact! However, some parts of the planning still seem like yesterday: the stress, the sleepless nights and the debates (ahem) about who can and can’t sit next to each other. What overrides all of that though is the total euphoria of the day. There really isn’t a feeling like it, which is why we’re here to offer the best expert advice from Essex professionals to help you enjoy the organising almost as much as the wedding itself.
One of the best parts of my job is seeing all the amazingly creative real weddings in the area and sharing them with you all; for this issue’s round up of local love stories, head to page 38. Braxted Park
Surrounded by 500 acres of parkland, landscaped grounds and lakes, Braxted Park’s gardens are brimming with banks of lavender, rose arbours and immaculately clipped lawns. Behind every wall is a fountain, sculpture or elegant balustrade. The tree-lined driveway leaves a lasting impression on visitors, as does the beautifully preserved Georgian house, which could be straight out of Pride and Prejudice. All weddings here are on an exclusive-use basis.
There are three different settings for ceremonies. The Orangery (160 guests) is bright, airy and exquisitely decorated. Its arched windows and hand-painted frescoes bring the outdoors in. The Walled Garden (160 guests) is a stunning al fresco spot where guests can enjoy secluded nooks and delightful features around every corner. There’s also a traditional parish church (150 guests). A hidden gem in the grounds, it’s a pleasant lakeside stroll from the house.
Once the formalities are over, it’s time to party. The Walled Garden Pavilion (350 guests) provides a blank-canvas space, which links seamlessly with outdoor terraces and the green spaces beyond. Inside, it boasts contemporary comfort and state-of-theart facilities. For a more classic setting, nearlyweds can choose the sophisticated panelled Ballroom (90 daytime guests). Magnificently restored, couples can celebrate their union under twinkling crystal chandeliers.
