On Thursday 5th February, The Sun Inn was honoured to welcome Their Majesties The King and Queen as part of a wider visit celebrating community, sustainability and local heritage. The award-winning pub-with-rooms The Sun Inn hosted a diverse group of guests invited to meet Their Majesties, including local volunteers, representatives from sustainable and regenerative businesses, members of the military, and civic dignitaries. Their Majesties arrived at The Sun Inn at 11.40am and were welcomed by owner Piers Baker and his wife Victoria, Head Chef Jack Levine, General Manager Kayleigh Dyble and Operations Manager of the Baker Collective Louise Wickens. During their visit, The King and Queen met with invited groups from across the community, hearing about their work and contributions to the village and region.
The King was then presented with a bottle of The Baker Collective Gin, produced with Fishers of Aldeburgh with Mersea Oyster Shells and chosen in recognition of His Majesty's fondness for a classic martini.
The visit continued in the kitchen, where The Queen enjoyed preparing handmade ravioli alongside the Sun Inn's chefs, highlighting the pub's focus on offering warm hospitality and high-quality British produce.
The King and Queen then continued their visit to the Essex Tea Rooms and the Munnings Museum.
The Sun Inn's owner Piers Baker said: "It was an immense honour to welcome Their Majesties to The Sun Inn and to share with them the people, produce and traditions that mean so much to us. The visit was a wonderful celebration of our team, our community, our local growers and producers, and highlighted the vital role pubs play for all communities."
