DOWN HALL HOTEL, SPA & ESTATE UNVEILS £1M RENOVATION

Down Hall, the 110-acre country house hotel, spa and estate in Essex, has announced a significant new phase of investment, with £1 million dedicated to expanding and elevating its luxury offering. Building on the success of recent extensive renovations, this next stage of development introduces three exciting new features: The Woodland Table, an immersive alfresco dining experience; a brand-new Garden Spa Retreat designed around holistic wellbeing; and The Charles Gardens, an expansive landscaped setting for outdoor weddings and events.

Linden Beattie, General Manager of Down Hall Hotel, comments: "We are incredibly proud to unveil these latest additions to the Down Hall Estate. This new phase of investment underscores our commitment to continuously enhancing the guest experience while preserving the character and charm of our historic property. Whether dining beneath the canopy of The Woodland Table, finding tranquillity in our new Garden Spa Retreat, or celebrating milestones in The Charles Gardens, we are redefining what it means to escape to the English countryside. Down Hall is now a true destination for luxury stays, extraordinary events and exceptional dining."

The first of these exciting developments is The Woodland Table, Down Hall's new alfresco dining concept set within the hotel's picturesque grounds, launching this July. Designed to celebrate nature, seasonality and the art of fire cooking, it is available for corporate event, weddings and exclusive ticketed dinners over the summer months.

Opening in September, the Garden Spa Retreat will offer five treatment rooms and a landscaped relaxation terrace, offering restorative, nature-connected experience in the heart of the countryside.

In April 2026, The Charles Gardens will debut as a striking half-acre venue designed for large-scale outdoor ceremonies, and events. Created by Hicks & Hart, the space features a wide lawn capable of seating up to 180 guests for weddings and gatherings. A decorative iron gazebo acts as the ceremonial focal point whilst a metal pergola creates a natural threshold, leading to a generous 2-metre-wide central aisle, ideal for grand entrances. A bespoke permanent bar sits on a new drinks terrace shaded by parasol trees, complemented by a separate lounge garden. More than 40 new trees will be planted, alongside formal hedging, ornamental grasses and sculptural domes, enhancing both the beauty and functionality of the setting. These latest developments reaffirm Down Hall's status as one of the UK's leading luxury country house hotels. It is a destination that continues to evolve its offering to delight and exceed the expectations of today's discerning travellers, whether visiting for a relaxing escape, a special dining experience, or a once-in-a-lifetime celebration.
